Tomorrow we are purchasing a membership for a healthclub.  I know, it’s a big step.  It’s not?  Well, for us it is, really.  We’ve spent the last couple of years fairly sedentary and junky and our mid-sections are certainly starting to show it.  Also, we are tired and have 2 boys.

So for the past week, I’ve been going to “the gym” while my little precious children are supervised by tall women in the “kids’ club house”.  Actually, I think this has been good for me: moving my body feels nice; free soft towels; letting go of the kids for the first time to strangers.  Wait, did I say strangers?  What have I been thinking!?

Ok, sorry.  Seriously, it is good for me.  Having all this fatty-fat around my middle is not good for my health and my muscles have atrophied and I’m full of strange aches and pains – those of a 60 year old, which I am not even half of!

So, to summarize so far: gym = good!

In my week going to the gym, I’ve done some cardio on the fun, yet no-impact elliptical trainers, sampling 3 of the many “my” gym has to offer.   I’ve also taken advantage of the free towels (unlimited!) and not having to remember a lock combination.  It has been sweet.  Also sweet are the hot showers complete with complimentary shaving cream (no excuses have I now!).

Today, I took advantage of another great offering of “my” gym: free classes.  You heard me right, FREE.  Well, part of the membership, I suppose, but up until tomorrow, to me they were completely free.  Yes, I can take spin, yoga, aerobics, water aerobics, pilates and some other nice things, free of charge, whenever I feel like showing up.  Today, I decided on water aerobics.  I like swimming and now I like exercising, so why not do these wonderful things at the same time!

No one told me it’s where all the old ladies hang out.*

*not that old ladies are bad… I might go back on Friday.
