A new banner in honor of my occupation (besides being a mother): a Medical Technologist.  Despite how we are portrayed on various medical dramas, we are not ornery(unless required to answer too many inane questions on the phone),  are not anti-social and cannot be bribed to run your samples any faster.  Also, unlike those doctors on House, we run all the lab testing.  There are not random doctors running into the lab and testing their own specimens; we do the testing because we go to school for what we do and are very good at it.

I also thought it fitting to revisit my blood smear post, being that many people are finding their way here through that one.  To update some of the information: I not longer work at a clinic lab, but at a large hospital lab.  Despite the lab being large, we do not have a slide maker in our Hematology department, we still do that part by hand.  That means it is as important as ever to make good slides.  Or at least decent ones.  Lucky for us, we do have a slide stainer.  Saves one of us standing there for hours staining one pair of slides at a time.  We do a lot of slides.  A fact we often complain about.

I also thought it would be fun to do another “how did you get here” feature.  Today’s search terms are fairly straight-forward:

baby showers cakes
childrens blank jumpers for decorating
hair cuttery
monkey scrub tops
the two of us
how to shorten shirt sleeves sew
baby shower cakes for girls
freud said about love
baby shower
shoes to wear in water
metal colander
music mem
easy mama

I’ll have to list some more when they get a little more humorous.

Now I’m off to search for more House dvds.  I just finished season 2 and I KNOW there are the first 2 discs of season 3 around here somewhere!

Questions for you, to you know, make it interesting:

  1. What are some misconceptions about your job?
  2. Favorite televisions shows and why?
  3. And of course, how did YOU get here?
